Leadership is a core executive function. In this unit, you explore how leadership has evolved and how it is defined, developed and applied across different organisational and societal contexts. You examine leadership as a transformative process, focusing on the roles played by both individuals and groups in shaping effective leadership practice. You also engage with a range of leadership development models to analyse how leadership influences organisational strategy, drives change and enhances effectiveness.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Research leadership theories and critique these theories with reference to the practice of leadership;
2. Compare and contrast leadership practice with models of leadership behaviour and communicate the findings; and
3. Critically reflect on leadership practice to evaluate and adapt approaches, demonstrating adaptability, flexibility and engagement with new ideas and ways of working.
