In this unit the focus is on the individual student as an emerging manager and the knowledge he/she need in the context of how people behave at work, how organisations are structured and managed to achieve organisational success. In this unit students are introduced to the fundamentals of management and different organisational processes in the context of the contemporary global business environments. Particular emphasis is placed on the application of theory to matters that may confront managers today and into the future.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Define the purpose and the range of activities associated with the effective management of people in organisations;
2. Analyse the relationship between management thinking and the practice of management in contemporary organisations;
3. Articulate their own managerial knowledge, skills and abilities;
4. Develop strategies and competencies, including indigenous cultural competence, for effective managerial behaviour; and
5. Evaluate organisational processes that can enhance organisational performance.

Additional Reading: Students will be directed to specific academic research articles on topics of particular interest and relevance during the semester.

To pass the unit, the student must achieve at least 50% of the aggregated marks.

 

Note:

  • Text-matching software will be used for the assessments.
  • All the sources and references used in the essay MUST be in English only.
  • All the assignments MUST be completed in English.
  • Translating materials from another language into English without proper referencing and using them as your own work in an essay can be considered as academic misconduct. For example:

A student uses some materials in another language and uses a translation tool to change the essay into English. Then the student uses some programs/applications/websites to change/modify the translated essay. This kind of practice can be considered as academic misconduct.

  • All the working files (i.e. initial drafts, editing notes) MUST be presented for any inquiry from the teaching staff. 
  • Using AI or similar programs to generate any part of the assignment work will be considered a breach of academic integrity. 

Students must apply academic integrity in their learning and research activities at 蹤獲弝け. This includes submitting authentic and original work for assessments and properly acknowledging any sources used.

Participation requirements

Students are expected to attend all the classes as scheduled and complete all assignments and research work that is set down for the unit in a timely manner. 

Required IT skills

Students must be able to use MS Office software in English. Students should also have an interest in extending this knowledge to basic technology for use in the workplace.
