ÂÜÀòÊÓƵ launches graduate certificates to champion inclusive policy and drive social change

26 November 2025: The ÂÜÀòÊÓƵ has introduced two innovative online postgraduate courses designed to equip professionals with the knowledge and skills to shape a more equitable future: the and the .

In Australia, workplace equity is a complex landscape with conflicting goals. Over half of employees now report their organisational climate is inclusive – a more than 75 per cent increase since 2019. However, public appetite for inclusivity is not reflected in workplace realities: the proportion of non-inclusive teams and managers have both increased since before the pandemic.

Both the Graduate Certificate in Gender Policy and the Graduate Certificate in LGBTQIA+ Policy emphasise real-world application, with learning outcomes that include intersectional analysis, ethical advocacy, and collaborative leadership. Students explore case studies, engage with community perspectives – including First Nations knowledge systems – and build practical skills in policy analysis and program design.

“These courses are designed for professionals who want to be part of the solution,” said Professor Mary Walsh, from the University’s Faculty of Business, Government and Law.

“Whether you're working in government, education, health, or community services, these courses provide the knowledge and tools to lead change that is both strategic and inclusive.”

Research reveals myriad benefits to inclusivity. Inclusive organisations are linked with higher profits, greater innovation, and better customer service, while also fostering environments that reduce discrimination and support employee mental health.

According to the Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD), diversity and inclusion policies in the public sector improve service delivery and employee engagement, and help build community trust. By involving impacted communities in the policy-making process, governments can design more effective and equitable policies.

There is a need for professionals across sectors to develop the skills to make these benefits a reality. The University’s new courses offer a valuable next step for those ready to lead with purpose to influence policy and drive meaningful, widespread change. The courses were designed to meet demand for critical, actionable knowledge across the public, private and not-for-profit sectors.

The Graduate Certificate in Gender Policy empowers students to critically assess the impact of policy on diverse gender identities, understand frameworks for equity and inclusion, and advocate effectively for gender-just outcomes.

The Graduate Certificate in LGBTQIA+ Policy is designed to build capacity in inclusive policymaking, deepening students’ understanding of LGBTQIA+ issues, histories, rights, and representation in contemporary policy contexts. Students will develop the skills to analyse, design, and influence policies that affirm dignity, foster equity, and strengthen social cohesion.

Delivered online, these courses offer flexible learning for busy professionals. The University’s supportive learning environment and personalised student support mean students can easily combine their study with work and life, applying what they learn to make an immediate difference.

Graduates may also choose to continue their academic journey, with both certificates offering pathways into the University’s Master of Public Policy.

Professor Walsh said that the University is committed to developing change-makers who can lead with compassion and clarity.

“These graduate certificates offer students the opportunity to make a meaningful impact through informed, inclusive policy and advocacy,” she said.
