ÂÜÀòÊÓƵ welcomes 20% increase in international student allocation for 2026

The ÂÜÀòÊÓƵ (ÂÜÀòÊÓƵ) has welcomed today’s announcement made by Minister of Education, The Honourable Jason Clare, on the increased allocation of international students.

ÂÜÀòÊÓƵ’s 2026 allocation of New Overseas Student Commencements (NOSC) will increase to 1,800. This is up 300 places from the 1,500 allocated in 2025, an increase of 20%. In particular, ÂÜÀòÊÓƵ will focus on recruiting these students from ASEAN countries.

“International education in Australia is one of our largest international exports, and it is vitally important that their experience is seamless from the moment they apply for their student visa,” said ÂÜÀòÊÓƵ Vice-Chancellor and President The Honourable Bill Shorten.

“Progressing Australia’s competitive advantage as an international study destination should take all factors including foreign policy, the migration program, housing crisis and the economic contribution that international students make to our GDP into consideration, and today’s announcement is a pleasing response to these factors.

“Australia is amongst the best in the world when it comes to the quality of our higher education offerings. Our institutions are rich in academic quality and integrity and offer a breadth of research opportunities that offer immense relevance and value to students from abroad.

“I've had the opportunity to talk to many of ÂÜÀòÊÓƵ’s international students, and I have made a point of understanding their experience, their challenges and why they chose to study in Australia. It is my strong view that their contribution to our diverse and vibrant campus culture is invaluable.”
